Mija is the first girl to use her crocheted "granny squares" to make a lovely cushion.
Great work Mija ! We did a Maths workshop with Izaks 9 , which is a set of equipment used for fun learning activities. We worked in groups and followed the instructions online to do the tasks. Thanks to Mrs. O' Meara for organising this activity for our class.
In Week 3 we started constructing our buildings. We used our drawings to get the sizes right. We started with the front wall and then added on the other walls and the roof. We still have a lot of work to do to finish our buildings.....
Here are some photos. Please check back to see our progress after Week 4 ( this week). We really enjoyed the visit of Alan Early today. He is the author of the Arthur Quinn series of books about a Viking monster under the streets of Dublin.
Thanks to Ms. Marron for organising this event and for inviting our class along ! Here are the photos: In 5th class we are delighted to welcome our visiting architect / artist Alan Meredith to guide us in an 8-week project on Architecture. We would like to thank Laois Education Centre for sponsoring this project. In Week 1 we thought about, chatted about and chose a building that we were familiar with as our subject for the project. We described the location, style and function of the buildings. We also described the materials used. In Week 2 we used a photograph of the building to do a sketch of it and then we learned how to present an architect's drawing, including a floor plan. We tried to be very tidy and precise with these drawings. You can see our photos from Week 1 and 2 below. Please check back with our Blog to see how we progress through the project. Thanks for reading the 5th class Blog.
We have been learning about Writing to Inquire. One way of doing that is to write questions, and then interview someone to find out the answers. We wrote questions about Hermann, the new tortoise that lives in Room 7 with Ms. Higgins' 6th class girls. We interviewed Mrs. Gaffey and Alisha ( Hermann's classroom minder) to find out about Hermann. Here are our interview sheets and some photos and illustrations of Hermann. Hope you like them ! ( Oh No.........See if you can spot the poop he did !!! ) Thanks for reading the 5th class Blog.
