The Parents' Association organised a sponsored fun run in the Town Park on May 20th. The girls ran or walked 5 laps of the park. Despite the weather we all had a great time and were treated to well deserved water and sweets afterwards. Thanks to all the parents that helped on the day and thank you to everyone that sponsored the girls. Over €3000 was raised which will go towards organising fun activities for the girls. The girls in 5th Class were really busy over the Easter break getting ready to showcase their mini enterprises. There was a fantastic display on the corridors and we were so impressed by how creative the girls were. Well done to Sarah Geraghty and Samantha Malniece who went forward to the Court Hotel to show their crafts. Our Parents' Association organised an outdoor bake sale and raffle on April 7th. They were helped by Ms. Heaslip and the 6th Class girls. A huge thank you to everyone that donated raffle prizes and baked and bought goodies. Over €1000 was raised on the day. Our school has been involved with the Creative Schools Project for the past year.
We have set up a 'Creative Schools Focus Committee' and 'Creative Schools Sub Committee'. When we met as a committee on Monday 25th April, we discussed ideas on how our school could be more creative. We worked with Caroline from Creative Schools and Ms. Marron, then we made some posters on how we can be more creative. We put up sticky notes, so all the girls in the school could write their ideas on our notice board. Creative schools week is coming up and we have fun activities planned. St. Philomena's G.N.S.Welcome to our website. Message from the Principal
I feel humbled and honoured to write this message as the newly appointed principal of St. Philomena’s N.S. I have been a member of the St. Phil’s staff for the past 14 years and I can honestly say that I have loved every day working in the school. As a Clara woman starting out in a Tullamore school in September 2008, I didn’t quite know how I would be received but I knew instantly that I had landed somewhere very special. The ethos of St. Philomena’s is grounded in respect, tolerance, openness and honesty and as a staff, we work hard at building relationships with each other, with the pupils and their families. My aim as principal is to ensure that every child feels valued coming in the school gates in the morning and that more than anything else, every child wants to come to school with us. In our school, Every Child Counts or No Child Counts and I will make it my main aim to foster a commitment to equality of opportunity for every pupil, every day. I will strive for a healthy, positive learning and working environment for the staff and our pupils and to provide a space where well-being will blossom naturally. As parent(s)/ guardian(s), you are the primary educators of your child/ren, so please don’t be afraid to come in and talk to us if you have any questions or concerns regarding your child/ren. Together, we can do so much more! With Love, Geraldine Gaffey Archives
