There was great excitement last Thursday as we all got back to the Tullamore Harriers stadium for our Sports Day. Preparations had been underway for a number of days beforehand with teams getting their county colours and headbands ready. The day was filled with sport, fun, games and races. Well done to all the girls for their participation and enthusiasm. To finish off the day, we all enjoyed a hot dog and ice-cream with thanks to our Parents Association. Thanks to Ms. Clear for organising this years Sports Day and to all our teachers, SNA’s and helpers on the day for making sure we all had lots of fun. We can’t wait for next years Sports Day! Congratulations to all of the girls in 5th and 6th Class who received an Activity Awards at this years 'Our World Irish Aid Awards'. Representatives from the class went to the awards ceremony in Farmleigh House, Dublin. The other girls in 5th and 6th Class tuned in via livestream, along with many other classes in the school. They were also treated to a trip to Flip and Whip for ice-cream, and were surprised with a lovely cake thanks to Patricia's mam! The girls worked very hard before Easter on their project which focused on two of the UN Global Goals: 'Quality Education' and 'Good Health and Wellbeing'. As part of their project, the girls set up five committees: - The Magazine Committee created an online magazine which was featured on the Global Goal Getters Magazine (click on this link to view, or click on the file below this post to see the whole magazine : online.fliphtml5.com/esdfl/ljgz/) - The Bake Sale committee ran a bake sale for the whole school which raised over €500! This money was donated to Strong Gens (a charity which provides education for refugee children across the world) and Jigsaw Mental Health charity. - The Drama Committee wrote, created and edited a drama based on our theme of 'Quality Education'. - The Wellbeing Committee ran wellbeing poster competitions in our school and created wellbeing flyers for all pupils. - The Interview Committee planned and ran a Zoom interview with children from Strong Gens who spoke to us about their experiences. The girls' hard work was well worth it and we are so proud of them all. Well done 5th and 6th Class!

St. Philomena's G.N.S.Welcome to our website. Message from the Principal
I feel humbled and honoured to write this message as the newly appointed principal of St. Philomena’s N.S. I have been a member of the St. Phil’s staff for the past 14 years and I can honestly say that I have loved every day working in the school. As a Clara woman starting out in a Tullamore school in September 2008, I didn’t quite know how I would be received but I knew instantly that I had landed somewhere very special. The ethos of St. Philomena’s is grounded in respect, tolerance, openness and honesty and as a staff, we work hard at building relationships with each other, with the pupils and their families. My aim as principal is to ensure that every child feels valued coming in the school gates in the morning and that more than anything else, every child wants to come to school with us. In our school, Every Child Counts or No Child Counts and I will make it my main aim to foster a commitment to equality of opportunity for every pupil, every day. I will strive for a healthy, positive learning and working environment for the staff and our pupils and to provide a space where well-being will blossom naturally. As parent(s)/ guardian(s), you are the primary educators of your child/ren, so please don’t be afraid to come in and talk to us if you have any questions or concerns regarding your child/ren. Together, we can do so much more! With Love, Geraldine Gaffey Archives
