Hi everyone, I hope everyone is keeping safe and well. Today is the last day of Term 2 and the beginning of our Easter break. There will be no work assigned by the teachers over the break. The RTE2 School Hub will continue from 11.00am-12.00pm over Easter so it might be a nice idea to continue watching it. I would like to compliment our girls on how well they have adapted to distance learning in a short space of time and I want to thank you the parents/guardians for all the support you are giving them under these unusual circumstances. Well done everyone! The teachers will post work on the website after Easter, if we are not returning to school. During your break remember to stay safe and follow all the guidelines that our government have put in place. Spend time with your family, baking, exercising, helping out, painting, whatever you enjoy. #Flags4Frontline Across the country, we realise that heroes come in many forms and that many of them are in our own homes. In the face of the Global COVID-19 pandemic, these heroes are parents, cousins, neighbours and friends who are spending long hours, day and night, fighting to ensure that this virus is controlled and lives are protected. As a show of support for those workers and volunteers on front lines at this critical time, all children who have a flag in their national, county or club colours, or whatever team you follow, are asked to hang that flag from your gate posts, windows, or wherever you would normally place a flag when supporting your county club or team ahead of an important match. If you don’t have a flag, you could create a flag on a sheet of paper or cardboard, or by doing some sewing. Such a show of solidarity from everyone towards those on the front line will demonstrate our gratitude for their marvellous dedication to their critical work at this extraordinary time. Hanging out the flags will also provide colour to lift everybody at a time when people are psychologically feeling the effects of this terrible pandemic. We hope that in the coming days, with your help, every road, street, lane, avenue, estate and apartment complex will be festooned with colour to honour our heroes - our families, neighbours and friends in the front-line services. Wishing you all a very Happy Easter from everyone in St. Philomena's N.S. Comments are closed.

St. Philomena's G.N.S.Welcome to our website. Message from the Principal
I feel humbled and honoured to write this message as the newly appointed principal of St. Philomena’s N.S. I have been a member of the St. Phil’s staff for the past 14 years and I can honestly say that I have loved every day working in the school. As a Clara woman starting out in a Tullamore school in September 2008, I didn’t quite know how I would be received but I knew instantly that I had landed somewhere very special. The ethos of St. Philomena’s is grounded in respect, tolerance, openness and honesty and as a staff, we work hard at building relationships with each other, with the pupils and their families. My aim as principal is to ensure that every child feels valued coming in the school gates in the morning and that more than anything else, every child wants to come to school with us. In our school, Every Child Counts or No Child Counts and I will make it my main aim to foster a commitment to equality of opportunity for every pupil, every day. I will strive for a healthy, positive learning and working environment for the staff and our pupils and to provide a space where well-being will blossom naturally. As parent(s)/ guardian(s), you are the primary educators of your child/ren, so please don’t be afraid to come in and talk to us if you have any questions or concerns regarding your child/ren. Together, we can do so much more! With Love, Geraldine Gaffey Archives
