On Friday 27th October, we had a Talent Show in our class where everyone did a performance for everyone else. We had singing and dancing, the cup song, a poetry recital, magic tricks, guitar-playing, a drama ( comedy) and a funny rap. We really enjoyed it ! Hope you like the photos ! Thanks to Emma and Ashanti for doing a wonderful job of M.C. for us. Happy Hallowe'en to everyone.
On Wednesday 25th October we partnered up with Ms. Corrigan's 3rd class to do a Maths Trail. You can read the report and see some photos on the 3rd class Blog.
On Friday we started working on some Hallowe'en art and craft. We used a mixture of charcoal and chalk to design our own ghosts and skeletons. Some of them are scary and some of them are quite friendly!! We hope you like these samples: Thanks for reading our Blog !
5th class was delighted to welcome Jennifer Byrne , Rose of Tralee, to our class on Friday 6th October. We chatted to her, asked her some questions and entertained her with some music and singing. It was a special occasion !
We have been looking more closely at some of the bridges that we see every day outside our school. We did sketches of some of them and hope you like them ! This one is Bury Bridge and it crosses the entrance to the harbour. We noticed the towpath under it where the horses pulled the barges in the 1800s and early 1900s. When we looked closely we could see the rope marks still left at the edges of the bridge. We used charcoal to draw and shade our illustrations of the new footbridges from Convent Road to Convent View and we showed the Kilbeggan Road bridge too. On the 4th of October we were invited to go to the library for a Lego Workshop! Rob (our Lego workshop mentor) explained to us what an engineer does and that he is a robotics engineer. When he told us that we were going to make a robot we were really surprised, but we made one in the end. First we turned on our tablets and got the instructions on how to build our Lego robots. We were working in pairs but we all helped each other. When we finished building we started to programme. We had to match the icons at the bottom to the ones on the top. First it moved forward. Then it moved back and then we built a scanner to our robots and we reprogrammed it to find the lego flower. We were amazed! We were very sad when we had to break up our robots but we had had a great time. Hopefully some of us could be engineers when we grow up! This report was written by Lillian Clear (5th class).
Thanks to Tullamore Library for inviting us to the workshop. Working in pairs, we composed 8-line poems about animals. We used the rhymimg scheme AA, BB, CC, DD. Some of our poems were funny. We edited our Word documents by changing the font, the size and the colour. We also inserted pictures. Here are some samples for you to enjoy.
We enjoyed some nice activities during Kindness Week. Here are some of our pictures that we drew to go with our Acrostic Poems that we composed with the help of an online app.
