First Term Fun in An Cuan
This week's theme is all on holidays...Sadly this year's holiday plans were cancelled for a lot of us but now that some restrictions are lifted and we can travel a little bit further, over the next few weeks we might experience more new things like visiting a new park, playground, beach, forest, have a picnic... Some of us began to write a diary during lockdown so you could continue this and keep a diary entry of the new things we are doing this summer, this could be a visual diary of photographs we have taken on our days out or we might write about these experiences. You can share them with your new teacher in September who would love to hear about your new adventures. Design your dream holidayYou can pick every single detail of your holiday so let your imagination go wild! First of all we need to decide on a holiday location! There are so many wonderful places in the world to visit. I was a big Home and Away fan when I was in secondary school and dreamed about walking on the beach and heading in to the surf shop and guess what girls it happened. I went to Australia for a year teaching and went on a day trip to Summer Bay and walked the beach so get planning as one day it could very well happen. Research Time Now you must know how you will travel to your chosen destination! How long it will take, will you need more than one means of transport? Describe what your journey will be like. Remember to include all of the things you will do on your journey. Will you make any stops along the way? Describe your perfect holiday home. Don’t forget to include what is inside and outside the holiday home Now you must make sure that we have everything we need in our suitcase. Now going on holiday requires a lot of taking photos! Draw some of your holiday snaps. Where did you go? What did you see? Who went with you? Again be as creative and imaginative as you like. Have Fun! Home made ice-creamA big hit in this house during lockdown was grannys homemade ice cream. The recipe is so easy to follow and you can add whatever flavour you like to it. So far we have had maltesers, crunchie, mint aero, raspberry and toblerone. I will leave you with one of my all time favourite songs Don't Stop Believin' by Journey. It carries a timeless message that says don't stop believing in you – don't stop believing in the world – don't stop believing in anything. Stay Safe and Keep Believing Good Morning Girls I hope ye all had a lovely weekend. The count down is on now for our summer holidays hard to believe how quickly time has gone by. This week is full of fun activities on your teachers blogs so here are just a few more that you might like to try. We are nearly there so keep going, keep smiling and keep safe. Have a fantastic fun week! Mrs. O'Meara The Lion King another of my favourite disney movies and the musical is brilliant girls (I only went to see if four times when I lived in London) and for this weeks theme on Music, Drama and Art we are going to bring it to life again. Hakuna Matata, the Swahili phrase for “there are no worries”, is one of the most important life lessons that Simba learns when he meets Timon and Pumba after he runs away from the kingdom. They teach him to replace his worries with happiness, love and hope. I think we have all had to use 'Hakuna Matata' over the past few weeks to overcome all our worries and fears about Covid 19. Whenever we feel a bit sad or under the weather, we need to remember like Simba that there are so many reasons to be happy. Remember all the good times we have had in school, and that there is so much to look forward to again. Overall, The Lion King teaches us that we can overcome any challenge life throws our way, if we don’t let worries overwhelm us. "As you go through life, you will see that there is so much that we don’t understand. And the only thing we know is things don’t always go the way we plan."... Simba “Repeat after me: Hakuna Matata.” – Timon “It’s the Circle of Life and it moves us all, through despair and hope, through faith and love, ’til we find our place on the path unwinding.” – Rafiki The Circle of Life ‘The Circle of Life’, how the story ends as it began, with Rafiki presenting the newborn son of The Lion King to the pride, part of an unending cycle. Mufasa tells Simba that all creatures depend upon each other, that we all have a place in the Circle of Life, and how Simba’s journey helps him to discover his true place in that circle. Circles are used in the production of The Lion King e.g. The great sun, Mufasa's mane. We also learn about the effect of breaking the circle - Scar's jealousy towards his own brother and nephew, and we know what her did to Mufasa. Now it is time to bring the story to life... Have a look at the following link to remind you of some of the best scenes from the movie https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1IdTRL17TQ or pick your favourite one. You can... Act it out Make a frozen picture using other people in your home, toys, teddies, objects Draw a comic strip Make a short video Make a diorama - this is a 3D model where you can use figures to represent a scene Role Play- Choose your favourite character from the movie and research information about them. What are your favourite hobbies or activities you like doing? What's your favourite food? What is your biggest challenge? What is your goal in life? Who are some of your friends? If you could travel anywhere, where would you go? You can make up lots of fun and unusual questions. Disney Music

Good Morning Girls! I hope you all had a lovely weekend and got outside lots enjoying the glorious sunshine. For our Under the Sea theme I have put a little learning menu together that you might like to try on one of my favourite movies ever 'Finding Nemo'. Just like all the many challenges and difficulties we have all faced since the 12th of March 2020, Marlin, Dory and the other fish in Finding Nemo teach us about life and how in times of difficulty and uncertainty we can overcome our fears in order to face the world head-on. It tells the story of a clownfish named Marlin who lives in the Great Barrier Reef with his only son Nemo. Fearful of the ocean and its unpredictable risks, he struggles to protect his son, Nemo, who, like all other fish, is eager to explore the mysterious reef. When Nemo is unexpectedly taken far from home and thrust into the fish tank of a dentist’s surgery, Marlin finds himself an unlikely hero on an epic journey to rescue his son. Joining Marlin’s quest is a Good Samaritan named Dory, a blue tang fish with the worst short-term memory and the biggest heart in the entire ocean. I love Dory. As the two fish continue on their journey, encountering numerous dangers, Dory’s optimism continually forces Marlin to find the courage to take risks and to overcome fears. In doing so, Marlin gains the ability to trust and believe, like Dory that all things will work out in the end. "When life gets you down, you know what you gotta do? Just keep swimming." — Dory We gotta keep on swimming for another while yet girls and then every little thing will be okay. Here are some of my favourite quotes from Finding Nemo and Finding Dory. I love these quotes as they are inspiring and relatable to life especially now more than ever. Make a list of your favourite quotes from the movies. “Well then, how are we gonna do that unless we give it a shot and hope for the best?" - Dory "It means you can do whatever you put your mind do" -Dory's Mum "When something is too hard there is always another way"- Dory's Dad Marlin: The water is half empty. Dory: Hmmm. Really? I'd say it's half full. "What would Dory do?" - Nemo "The best things happen by chance" - Dory And this one makes me laugh... "This is the ocean silly, we're not the only two in here" - Dory Happy we'll be beyond the sea again someday when we all meet up again. |
