On Friday 10th, we went to O'Connor Square to check out the BioBus, organised by Offaly County Council. The BioBus was kitted out like the inside of a house and we learned about the bioeconomy and how we can make things that we need from plants, animals and microbes to make them more sustainable.
Halloween
On Friday 27th October, we dressed up for Halloween in school. We took part in the Witches Walk around Arden View with St. Joseph's and Scoil Eoin Phóil. Have a lovely, safe, relaxing midterm everyone!
Light Painting
On 23rd October, we took part in a Light Painting workshop organised by Offaly County Council and Arts Council Ireland. As part of the workshop, we learned some Bhangra dancing and used lights, torches, glowsticks and cameras to create pictures in a way we have never done before.
Letter Writing
In Term 1, we wrote and posted letters to people we know as part of 'Writing to Socialise'.
Maths Week 2023
As part of Maths Week 2023, we took part in the Izak9 challenge. We really enjoyed working in teams, racing against each other and against the clock to put the blocks back together correctly. It was a Teacher vs. Pupil competition and we were so happy when the pupils won the challenge. We also completed a Maths Trail around the school.
Supporting our girls in Cumann na mBunscoil
Congratulations to all the girls on our school Gaelic team. Some girls from our class received medals for being a part of the winning team. Well done girls! To get ready for the match, we learned how to finger knit and made green and yellow headbands.
We are scientists!
So far this year, we have been learning about Teeth and Electricity in Science. Check out the pictures below to see how different drinks can affect our teeth. We did the experiment using eggs because the material of the egg shell is similar to our teeth. Using a battery, a battery holder, crocodile clips, leads, a bulb and a bulb holder, we discovered how to make a circuit to turn on the lightbulb! We also experimented with different materials to decide if they would be insulators or conductors of electricity. We have learned about some of the dangers of electricity and chatted about ways to keep ourselves safe!
Kindness Week
As part of Kindness Week 2023, our class created labels with unique compliments on them for each person in our school. We put the labels on lollipops and both the compliments and lollipops were enjoyed by staff and pupils.
