In 1960, the annals of Tullamore convent states: “The Convent is in bad repair and needs a complete renovation”. After consultation with Dr. Kyne, Bishop of Meath, the Sisters were advised to demolish and rebuild. The beautiful old Convent, built in Catherine McAuley’s time, and which she admired so much, and prophesied it “would last for centuries”, was to come down.
Dr. William Moran, P.P. blessed the site – the same site as its predecessor. |
