It is important that your child attends school everyday. However, we do realise that there are sometimes very valid reasons why your child misses school, such as illness or some other important reason.
Please be aware that if your child misses over 20 days in school, the school is obliged to pass this information on toTusla (Child and Family Agency). AND...... If your child is absent for reasons other than illness and the school is concerned, an educational welfare officer may be in contact with you.
We would also like you to be aware that when the girls are late in the mornings, they sign the ‘late book’ and the number of minutes for which they are late is uploaded to their profile on the office system. When they have to leave school early, this is also recorded on the system in school. The minutes are then calculated for each pupil at the end of each term. These minutes add up very quickly if they are late or leave early on a regular basis and this information is used for attendance purposes also.
We are so grateful for your ongoing support in all we do in St. Philomena’s.

It is hard to believe it is November already and that we are into the second half of Term 1. We have already had some events in the parents' room this year.
Just before Halloween we had a wonderful pumpkin carving session in Ms McDonnell's 3rd Class. Many thanks to all the parents who came along and gave us such great help. We had some very impressive pumpkins on the school corridor.
Watch out for details of more opportunity to work with your child in the classroom as we hope to have some creative Christmas craft sessions in a number of classes before Christmas.
Coming up soon Christmas cooking with Anne Kiltraine in St Joseph's Kitchen. Starting Monday 19th November and continuing for four weeks, Anne will introduce us to two savoury and two sweet dishes that we can prepare for the festive season. This proved a huge success last year, so we are looking forward to more delicious cooking in the weeks ahead. See you there !!
