Hi Girls, I hope you and your families are keeping well. I also hope you got through the work from last week without too much difficulty. Below is your work for this week. Once again, try your best to complete as much of this as possible but do not get stressed out about it. I would appreciate if you could take pictures of your solar system projects and email them to me if possible. You should be able to complete this without too much difficulty, but email me if you have any questions · Star Store pg.124-125 · Blooms Garden Centre pg. 148-149 · Maths Challenge 60,61,62,63,64 Also, it is very important that you practice your multiplication and division tables daily English · Spellbound Week 31 – Complete all exercises and make sure that you can spell each of the block words. · Poetry – Alan Ahlberg is best known for his school poems. Below is a poem called “Excuses” Please read the poem and complete the exercises. · Excuses I’ve writ on the wrong page, Miss. My pencil went all blunt. My book was upside-down, Miss. My book was back to front. My margin’s gone all crooked, Miss. I’ve smudged mine with my scarf. I’ve rubbed a hole in the paper, Miss. My ruler’s broke in half. My work’s blew out the window, Miss. My work’s fell in the bin. The leg’s dropped off my chair, Miss. The ceiling’s coming in. I’ve ate a poison apple, Miss. I’ve held a poison pen! I think I’m being kidnapped, Miss! So . . . can we start again? Exercise 1 ·This poem is full of excuses, but which one is the best excuse? · Draw a horizontal line and write 'best' on the left hand side and 'worst' on the right hand side. This is your scale. · Now position the excuses on your scale to show your opinion about which are the best and which are the worst excuses. · Can you create a better excuse? Exercise 2 · Imagine you are giving awards to the excuses. Which excuse is the funniest, the most dramatic and the least likely? · Record your ideas in a table and give a reason. Exercise 3 Research the poet/writer Alan Ahlberg and record the following -name 5 poems that he has written -name 5 stories that he has written -list 5 interesting faces about him (e.g. age, place of birth etc) · Interviews – Last week we interviewed somebody we knew. This week we are going to write no more than 15 questions we would ask somebody we don’t know. This could be somebody who is famous or a role model you would like to meet. Remember the following 1) Choose your questions carefully(don’t ask questions you already know the answers to) 2) Ask appropriate questions 3) Ask open-ended questions (an open-ended question cannot be answered using yes or no - e.g. tell me about a time when....) · Please remember to continue with your daily diary. Just take a minute in the evening to write down what you during the day. ·And most importantly make sure that you are continuing to read every day. Since lockdown and quarantine policies were put in place to reduce the spread of COVID-19, the following has happened - 40 percent fall in carbon dioxide and nitrogen dioxide greatly improving air quality and reducing the risk of asthma, heart attacks and lung disease - Sale of petrol and diesel down 75 percent in some counries which had greatly reduced air pollution Humans often effect the environment in a negative way. This week I would like you to research and create a small presentation on one of the following issues · Air pollution · Water pollution · Soil and land pollution · Climate Change · Global Warming · Deforestation · Overpopulation SPHE Our topic this week in SPHE is - Myself and My Family 1) List 5 ways you can help your family now 2) Split a page in half . On one side make a list of “What I needed from my family when I was 5 years old” and on the other side make a list of “What I need from my family now” 3) This week I would like you to make a special effort to help your parents around the house as much as you can. This is a difficult time for everyone but is also a great time to spend time with our families. Best of luck with your work this week and email me if you are having any difficulties. Maths · Algebra – Number Sentences - Pg. 157 -161 · Remember, you do not have to complete every question in this chapter. The main thing to remember is that number sentences are sentences written with numbers and symbols e.g. =,+,-,x etc. Also try to remember the difference between the “less than” and “greater than” signs. · Maths Challenge 55,56,57,58,59 · “Twinkl.ie” along with various other websites have many resources based on number sentences that may be helpful · Also, it is very important that you practice your multiplication and division tables daily even if it is only for a few minutes. English · Spellbound Week 30 – Complete all exercises and make sure that you can spell each of the block words. · This week we are focusing on Interviews · You can interview somebody at home or call someone to that you would like to interview · The purpose of an interview is to gain information about that person. Make sure you have a list of at least 20 questions that are appropriate for the person that you are interviewing. For example, if you are interviewing a friend you might ask “what do you want to be when you grow up”? You dont need to ask this question if you are interviewing one of you parents ;) · Check out “Funny interviews with kids” on YouTube · You will need a pen and paper to record the answers that are given · Please remember to continue with your daily diary. Check out “How to make a 3D solar system” on YouTube · I would like everyone to make or draw their own solar system. You can paint stones of various sizes tpo represent each planet. An easy way to remember the planets in order from the sun is “My Very Easy Method Just Sums Up Nine Planets” Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune · Pick one planet from our solar system and research it. You will need to record at least 10 facts on the planet that you choose. · Check out “Planet Size Comparison 2018” on YouTube. It will show you how small our Earth really is. Best of luck, M.
